Overall Appearance: Jaku has medium-length blonde hair that often gets in his hazel-colored eyes. He always has a cigarette in his mouth, and is usually seen either smoking it, or, in a place where smoking isn't allowed or would give away his position, simply holding it in his mouth. His body is fairly lean and his skin is fair, showing that he does not spend much time honing taijutsu.

Civilian Attire: Jaku wears a long-sleeved white button-up, a black vest, and a black tie that he usually leaves only half-tightened, as he hates the similarity of a tie and a noose. His white button-up is also untucked, with the hem reaching down to the middle of his thighs. He wears black slacks and black dress shoes over black socks. He is never without his sunglasses or a carton of cigarettes. On hot days or when he needs to do something, he will usually roll up his sleeves.

Mission Attire: Jaku wears something similar when on a mission, save for the colors; he trades his white button-up with a black one, with its sleeves kept up by a button so that they won't fall over his hands. Any and all reflective surfaces have had matte paint covering them to stop any particular shine, and his black dress shoes are replaced by black nin shoes. In addition, he wears the weapon pouch so that the pouch itself is behind him, at waist-height. He keeps a carton of cigarettes in his shirt pocket, along with a "special blend" in his weapon pouch. He wears his headband similarly to a bow tie, with the metal headband facing forwards at the front of his neck.

Overall Persona: Jaku is generally laid-back and relaxing, and doesn't seem to get stressed easily. He has been seen as lazy by most, but he is only relaxing in public, and trains hard in private, where other cannot see how much work he puts into training. When not training or resting, Jaku enjoys playing games of chance and card games, especially Texas Hold 'Em. He even plays solitaire when he is alone. People have assumed, because of this, that he is a lazy gambler that only gets money from cheating people out of their money. During a battle, Jaku will normally try to mock the opponent with simple one-liners, in order to throw them on the immediate offensive. If they do so, Jaku will use his normal guerrilla-style attacks of moving in close to cause damage, then trying to move back and avoid a counter-strike. If this proves ineffective or the opponent is challenging, however, Jaku will change his strategy, and attack the opponent non-stop while using his clan's jutsu, to make it impossible for the opponent to go back on the offensive. This sudden switch can confuse most opponents, and helps Jaku to keep his number of wins above his number of losses.

On a mission, Jaku will place the safety of himself and his team above the success of the mission, though he will not shy away from danger. If he finds that the mission will be easy, he is often laid-back and participates as little as possible, but if the mission is difficult, Jaku will take it as a challenge and try hard to succeed.

Kekkei Genkai: Smoke Release: The Kemuriburu Clan specializes in a subsidiary of Katon ninjutsu that is unique to the clan. This subsidiary allows the creation and control of dense smoke, allowing the members of the Kemuriburu Clan to make smokescreens without requiring the use of tools. At higher levels, the smoke can become more dangerous, and members can make either combustible or poisonous smoke (with the use of certain jutsu, and the effects of the poisonous smoke must be approved by two staff members). There is, however, a limit to the volume of smoke that a clan member can use:

Tokubetsu Jounin: 30 cubic feet
Jounin: 40 cubic feet

In other words, the ninja can only control enough smoke to make a zero-visibility smokescreen filled to their maximum range. In other words, a genin can control as much smoke as it takes to create zero-visibility conditions everywhere within five feet of their person.

In addition, smoke techniques can be blown away by large-sized wind ninjutsu (for example, a large gust will blow away the smoke, but Asuma's wind-style Flying Swallow will not), and it can be smothered out by Suiton chakra. Oddly enough, this means that the Katon subsidiary is weak against Katon's strength and weakness (wind and water, respectively).

Members of this clan typically enjoy smoking to some extent, though not all of them smoke cigarettes. When a clan member has started using their clan jutsu, their skin will begin to emit a small amount of their chakra in the form of wispy smoke. This can serve as a warning to others that they are about to use a clan jutsu, and at S-rank, the smoke that comes off the clan member can be thick enough to be used as a smokescreen on its own.

Clan History: This clan is one of the first to have been created in Kazangakure. When the clan was young, its members would ritualistically breathe in the fumes that would spring up from a volcanic vent near the village. Although a large number of the clan members would die from inhaling the toxic fumes, some had built up a resistance to this smoke. Although immunity to toxic fumes was not considered by most to be particularly useful, the Kazankage at the time gave the Kemuriburu clan its official title of a ninja clan. For the next few years, the Kemuriburu clan was used only as ambush attackers to be used against invaders. By hiding in vents filled with toxic fumes, they could remain hidden until an enemy came too close and was grabbed and pulled in by the clan member, killing them quickly and efficiently.
However, it became clear that this very small role would not be needed very often and was not in great demand, as enemies rarely went near volcanic vents. This prompted the clan leaders to try and develop a more successful method of using the clan's immunity to smoke and poisonous gases to their advantage. After an unsuccessful attempt to create a ninjutsu that actually made volcanic vents near the opponent, the clan leaders found something that did work. After breathing in the toxic fumes and lacing it with their chakra, they could increase the volume of the toxic fumes to incredible sizes. This prompted other ninja in the clan to try the same. This made the clan far more successful as ambush attackers, and the clan has thrived in Kazangakure ever since.

Description: This passive technique can allow the user of the technique to not be affected by their own smoke jutsu, and is always active. The clan member coats his or her lungs and throat with their chakra, allowing only air to pass through their throat. This technique makes it impossible for the user to be affected by poison that is normally taken into the lungs, though the user will still be poisoned through other means. However, it does not protect against water, and clan members are still susceptible to drowning.

Description: This is the most basic technique of the clan, and is usually the set-up for most of the clan's special jutsu. The jutsu allows the ninja to create smoke out of their own chakra, or to increase the amount of smoke coming from a natural source. The amount of smoke that can be produced is limited to the user's own limit to the amount of smoke that they can use.

Description: This jutsu allows the member of a clan to create a smoke cloud thick enough to obscure normal vision to 0% visibility. After performing handseals, the user will inhale some smoke in some form or another, combine it with their own chakra to increase production to a larger scale, then blow it out in one large burst of smoke that can engulf the area. Although it can reduce visibility greatly, this does not work well on chakra sensors or ninja with dojutsu. Because the smoke is made using natural smoke, any opponents caught in it without eye protection and a gas mask or other method of filtering air will find it difficult to breathe without coughing and their eyes will water, making it more difficult to see for one post after they exit the smokescreen.

Description: This jutsu is only able to be used by a member of the clan who smokes marijuana instead of tobacco. Just like the normal smokescreen, this one can reduce visibility immensely. After performing handseals, the user will inhale marijuana smoke and combine it with their own chakra to increase production to a larger scale, then blow it out in a burst of smoke that can engulf the area. This jutsu will also not be an effective smokescreen against sensory ninja or dojutsu, but there is an added effect. Just like the original Smokescreen Jutsu, this technique causes blurred vision and coughing, but extended exposure (for two posts) can cause the opponent to feel dizzy and less coordinated for the next three posts. This effect is also present in the user of the jutsu, however.

Description: This jutsu can create clones made entirely of smoke. After performing handseals, the user of the technique will take in a lungful of air and combine it with their chakra to increase production of the smoke. When the user breathes out the smoke, it will form into a replicate form of the user of the technique. This clone is not physical, however, and cannot hold objects or attack an opponent. However, when it is attacked and "hit", it will explode outwards into a smokescreen, and it can even detonate at will.

History: Birth and Childhood Arc: Jaku Kemuriburu was born of two shinobi parents, both of whom helped to train him in the clan jutsu using harmless smoke so as not to hurt the child's lungs or throat. While he was a child, he played ninja with the other children normally, like most children do in a ninja village. Eventually, Jaku became old enough to join the ninja academy, and his parents told him that he must join the academy. But Jaku had become afraid of being killed as a ninja and ran away from home at the young age of 12.
Instead, Jaku Kemuriburu learned to cheat people out of their money by fixing games of poker, and he would use that money for food. Eventually, the townspeople learned about his tricks and chased him away. In shame, he returned to his parents, and vowed to never cheat at a game of poker. From now on, if he won a game of poker, it was by chance, instead of underhanded actions.
Academy Student Arc: Because his parents accepted them back into their home, Jaku was coerced into joining the ninja Academy, though he was still afraid of being killed by an enemy ninja. While he was taught the basic ninjutsu techniques, his parents also taught him more advanced clan techniques. Although Jaku often went to bed exhausted, he was excelling faster than normal due to being trained twice as much. This is why, despite his temporary absence from the world of ninja tactics, he managed to graduate within the normal range of 12-16. He still fully attributes his success to chance, rather than skill.
